First off, people in DC are nice. I forget this in New York, but in most of the country, people are just friendlier. After Kate and I suffered through a six-hour Friday night bus ride (with movie options Remember Me and The Bounty Hunter), Mary, our lovely host for the weekend, rushed us to a bar. They let me in without an ID, sold me a pitcher of beer for $14, and everyone was like, "Hi! What's your name, person I'll never see again?! Tell me all about yourself!!!"
Then it was Rally Day. Kate's roommate kindly provided us with special passes, so we need not rub elbows with the proletariat.
The Metro that morning was out of control, with ridership at record levels. The DC subway, as Kate put it, is both antiquated and futuristic - a vision of the twenty-first century through the eyes of someone in 1965. It feels like it's out of Back to the Future: Part II.
We saw some VERY random signs.
Matt Damon?
Anyway, we had a pretty good view (keep in mind that the crowd behind us extended for over ten blocks) and enjoyed what felt like The Daily Show: Live! (with special guest Stephen Colbert) slash "Protest Against Cable News." I was glad to be there.
On the way back we passed the Capitol, right by famous New Jersey Ave. DC's sights really are gorgeous.
Please note the fanny pack I am rocking in the above pictures. My arms were so deliciously free! The fanny pack is back!
